Recently, events that find fresh musicians have become rare. Musicians, especially students, rarely get enough appreciation for their work. Many wannabe musicians and bands cover songs from famous artists to acquire success quickly. FPB and KMI are organizing ‘Bintang Musik Sekolah (BMS)’ a music event for Jakarta high school students to fill this void. It will take place October–December 2023. Forum Pemuda Betawi and DKI Jakarta’s Department of Education and Culture have worked to preserve art and student talent. This initiative also helps the Department of Education and Culture empower students and create a creative learning environment.
Student Empowerment through ‘Bintang Musik Sekolah’ ‘Bintang Musik Sekolah’ promotes positive activities, fostering musical talent development and peer collaboration in extracurricular activities. Participants learn music industry skills through theoretical and practical training at this event. The event discovers fresh talents and develops them into professional musicians and singers.
In addition, ‘Bintang Musik Sekolah’ allows students to express their creativity, learn more about music, and gain confidence by performing publicly.
Government endorsement and support for Bintang Musik Sekolah
At the ‘Bintang Musik Sekolah’ conference on Tuesday (3/10) at DKI Jakarta’s Department of Education Auditorium, Deputy Governor for Culture and Tourism Marullah Matali strongly supported this initiative.

Three months of musical spectacle
From October 3 to 31, 2023, participants can register for ‘Bintang Musik Sekolah’. The first coaching session is November 6-10, 2023, followed by qualification rounds from November 13-17. The second coaching session will be on November 23, 2023, before the Grand Final on December 14, 2023.
There are several stages of selection and judging for bands, from registration to the grand final. Workshops with renowned music mentors will help students understand the music industry. Workshops cover stage management, video clip making, and more. Participants in the grand final will receive studio recordings and a professionally produced DVD. Results will be posted on YouTube and digital stores.
Bintang Musik Sekolah, Promote Betawi Culture with Music
The Culture Department backs this project. The Department of Culture greatly encourages this activity since it involves art, such as music and singing, which we must preserve. The mandatory Betawi song is rearranged. Bintang Musik Sekolah may produce outstanding Betawi musicians who value Betawi arts and culture “Iwan Henry Wardhana, DKI Jakarta’s Culture Department Head, stated.
Registration and Evaluation Standards
For ‘Bintang Musik Sekolah,’ students must meet registration requirements. Submissions contain the band’s name, members’ names, school of origin, band photo, song title, lyrics, and creator’s name. Participants must also send an unlisted or unpublished YouTube link to an original song recorded in a good live studio.
Notation, lyrics, performance, sound quality, stage act, conceptualization, and packaging are evaluated.
Festival Guidelines
Participants must follow requirements to guarantee the BMS festival runs well. These include arriving two hours early, registering with the committee at the venue, and preparing all musical equipment under the stage before their performance. Participants should also avoid tuning their instruments on stage to preserve them. Before commencing their song, contestants must briefly introduce their band, school, and song title to the judges.
Participants have five minutes without sound to set up their instruments during the MC’s introduction at the festival. Participants must first perform a Benyamin S song in their musical style, then their own composition. Notations, lyrics, performance, sound, stage act, concept, and packaging are judged.
